For established founders and owner-managed businesses

Financial advice before the decision, not after the year end.

The Tax Network Group combines dependable accountancy with forward-looking tax advice, forecasting and commercial support for established owner-managed businesses.

We stay close to the numbers throughout the year, so when you are considering a hire, an investment, a new structure, an acquisition or eventually an exit, the advice arrives while it can still change the outcome.

The most important financial questions rarely arrive at the year end.

Traditional accountancy relationships are built around deadlines. Accounts are filed, returns are submitted and the numbers explain a period that has already passed.

Growing businesses need advice earlier. Decisions about people, investment, cash flow, ownership, tax and succession need to be considered before commitments are made.

We stay close to the numbers throughout the year, helping owners understand the options and make decisions while the advice can still influence the outcome.

  • 01 Can the business afford its next senior hire without putting pressure on cash six months later?
  • 02 Should profits be extracted, retained for investment or moved within a group?
  • 03 Would a holding company or group structure create greater flexibility?
  • 04 Does an acquisition make commercial sense once funding, tax and post-deal cash flow are considered?
  • 05 What needs to happen now if the eventual objective is succession or sale?

Three ways we support established businesses and private clients.

One relationship bringing together forward-looking advice, dependable compliance and considered personal tax planning.

Built for businesses that have outgrown a reactive accountant.

Our clients are typically beyond the earliest stage of business. There is an established operation, a team to support and decisions being made that carry meaningful financial consequences.

The accounts still need to be right and the deadlines still need to be met. But that is no longer enough. The owner also needs reliable information during the year and access to someone who understands the business when an important decision arises.

Usually a good fit

You are likely to get value from the relationship if:

  • the business has moved beyond the earliest startup stage;
  • you employ people or are building a management team;
  • cash flow and profitability need active management;
  • you want regular management information rather than annual accounts alone;
  • tax planning increasingly overlaps with business decisions;
  • you are considering investment, borrowing, acquisition or restructuring;
  • succession or eventual sale is beginning to matter.

Designed for an ongoing relationship

We are deliberately not a high-volume accountancy practice. Businesses looking primarily for the lowest-cost annual accounts or a once-a-year filing service are unlikely to need the way we work.

Advice for what you are building and what comes next.

The questions change as a business develops. Our role is to provide the information, tax planning and commercial advice needed at each stage.

Grow

Make informed decisions about people, investment, funding and expansion.

  • Forecasting & budgeting
  • Cash-flow planning
  • Management information
  • Raising finance
  • Acquisitions
  • Group structures

Protect

Strengthen the business, manage risk and preserve the value already created.

  • Company and owner tax planning
  • Financial controls
  • Profit extraction
  • Group structuring
  • Succession planning
  • Business continuity

Exit

Prepare early for succession, investment or sale, while there is still time to influence the outcome.

  • Exit readiness
  • Reorganisations
  • Due diligence preparation
  • Management succession
  • Transaction structures
  • Owner tax planning

The Tax Network Group is for owners whose financial decisions have become too important for advice that arrives after the event.

What advice before the decision actually looks like.

Three examples of the kind of work involved. They describe the work, not the results of particular clients.

A senior hire

Can the business afford another £80,000 senior employee?

The work
Model salary, employer costs, expected additional revenue, working capital and the resulting monthly cash position under different assumptions.
The outcome
The owner can decide whether to hire now, delay the appointment or change the role with the financial consequences visible in advance.
An acquisition

Does buying another business make financial sense?

The work
Review historic performance, normalise earnings, model funding and debt service, assess working-capital requirements, consider the acquisition structure and project the combined business after completion.
The outcome
The decision is based on what the acquisition does to cash, profitability and the owner's wider position rather than simply whether the purchase price appears affordable.
A future sale

What should change now if the business may be sold in several years?

The work
Consider group structure, owner dependence, management information, recurring revenue, profitability, remuneration, succession and the likely tax consequences of an eventual transaction.
The outcome
The work starts while there is still time to improve both the business being sold and the options available to its owner.

A closer, more useful accountancy relationship.

The difference is not that we complete different tax returns or file different accounts. It is how closely the compliance, information and advice are connected.

Direct access

You deal directly with the people who understand the work and the decisions behind it, without an account-management layer in between.

Advice between deadlines

The relationship continues through the year, rather than restarting when another filing deadline approaches.

Information while it matters

Management information, forecasts and tax projections are prepared while they can still influence a decision.

Tax planned in advance

Structures, transactions and profit extraction are considered before the event rather than explained afterwards.

A recommendation, not just an explanation

We explain the position and the available options, then tell you what we think you should do and why.

Boutique by choice

We maintain a deliberately selective client base so there is enough time to understand each business and remain involved as it changes.

Every accountant can file a tax return. Far fewer can help an owner decide whether acquiring another business is the right move.

Our role is to help business owners make better financial decisions.

Senior advice, directly.

The Tax Network Group was built around a simple idea: business owners should have access to useful financial advice while decisions are still being made, rather than receiving a technically correct explanation several months afterwards.

Leon Stevens

Managing Partner

Leon trained at Deloitte and spent ten years in the Big 4, latterly at KPMG, as a specialist tax adviser to high-net-worth individuals and expatriates in the financial services industry. It is work where the sums involved leave no room for an approximate answer. He left to build a practice that could apply that standard of thinking at closer range, and now leads the firm’s work for high-net-worth individuals and business owners: the compliance that has to be right, and the planning that determines how much tax is paid in the first place.

Dale Moore

Managing Partner

Dale built his career in boutique independent practice, where an adviser carries a client’s whole position rather than one specialism, before establishing his own firm. His experience runs across both individual and company taxation, which is the combination that matters most to an owner whose personal position and company are really a single question. He specialises in tax planning for high-net-worth individuals and business owners, and takes on the work where structure, timing and personal consequences have to be weighed together.
